Your first visit to Hemispheres focuses on identifying any immaturity in your child's neurological system and the impact that this is having on their movement and co-ordination, sensory and emotional responses, fine motor and handwriting as well as potential impact on your child's independence and performance at school.
Your first session will be longer, lasting 2 hours, where activities and clinical observations will be carried out to assess for the presence of 14 primtive and postural reflexes, associated gross and fine motor skills, balance, co-ordiantion, motor control as well as visual motor skills, handwriting and sensory processing. As therapist we tailor the assessment to your child and their presenting difficulties, so we can ascertain fully the holisitc impact your child's symptoms are having on their functioning.
Following the initial consultation, a specific home programme of daily physical and sensory exercises is perscribed, this will include different movements and exercises that you will be asked to carryout at home on a daily basis. The programme is designed to provide consistent and regular stimulation to your child's central nervous system. For more information on the movement programme please follow the link.
