Autistic Spectrum Disorder

‘My 2 sons both have been diagnosed with autistic spectrum conditions and both have been following Hemispheres programmes, individually tailored to address their different needs. Their Hemispheres programmes have been very helpful for my boys, not only supporting the development of their fine motor skills but also providing the boys with a range of exercises which help them manage their anxieties. I am certain that following the Hemispheres programme has helped enable my older son’s successful transition from a resource provision (a unit in a mainstream school) to full-time mainstream education: thanks to the Hemispheres programme, my older son can now cope with the day to day anxieties presented to him in a full-time mainstream school environment, and is adamant that he prefers the mainstream to his old specialist school environment! Although my sons still have difficulties in a number of areas, the Hemispheres programme is helping them to prepare for independent life in the ‘real world’, building their resilience and enabling them to be more independent, and I’d therefore recommend Hemispheres to all parents whose children also have autistic spectrum conditions.

Daniel - Autism

I am delighted to have found Hemispheres. My son, Daniel, is age 5 and has autism. He has many sensory processing issues which led him to engage in many undesirable behaviours. His gross and fine motor skills were also way behind what would be expected of typically developing child of his age. When we first went to Hemispheres Daniel was hard to physically handle and difficult to get anywhere near him for assessment. Happily Shelley was still able to make a very valid assessment of Daniel and his needs, and set us a programme to start to work on his problem areas. I was amazed at the difference that was made in a very short space of time, using some very simple and easy to learn techniques. Daniel has progressed SO much in the year we have been attending the Hemisphere clinics.

Everything absolutely makes sense, and each new technique we implement adds to the progression. It is so exciting to see. It is one of the most positive appointments I ever have with my son as it is always about progress, and addressing areas that are a problem for us - there IS a solution to the difficulties that children like Daniel have. I think every child with autism should be given the chance to be assessed and work on in this format. I cannot recommend Hemispheres more highly.

Luca. Autism

Luka: Autism

We have done with Luka many things regarding his autism. From the Son Rise program, change in diet, AIT audio integrational training and Hemispheres OT. From all of the things we have done Hemispheres made so much more sense.

At the assessment Shelley explain about Luka's reflexes having not developed properly, making him unable to do certain things she also explained that we could do something about it, it was a relief.

We saw progress with Luka straight away and we know that it was due to Hemispheres. Shelley has always been a great support and help. Somebody seeing Luka every month really helps; each month they examine him and give more exercises. All the changes that we have seen since the last appointment, Shelley discusses with me the relationship between Lucas’s recent behaviour and the reflexes.

Since starting Hemispheres Luka has change in many ways, his speech and motor skills are so much better, he is able to concentrate and listen and participate in joint activities. I know we have a long road in front of us but it doesn't seem so scary any more now we have the support of Hemispheres.
