My son was diagnosed with possible dyspraxia in September 2013 and has been receiving regular OT since then. However, I felt even though progress was good there was something missing. My sons handwriting had improved through both his and my perseverance but I still felt he wasn't ABSORBING information and I was really worried.
I was introduced to Shelley by another mum whose child also has dyspraxia and was already on Shelley's programme in the UK. When I heard Shelley was coming out to Gibraltar I signed up immediately for the course.
On the day of the course I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't sure what I was going to learn as my sons handwriting was already improving. What I learnt opened up a whole new world to me.
I never realised how complex handwriting really is and it's close association with neurology. It is a complex set of movements that involves the neurological, auditory and motor pathways combined. It is one of the most difficult things a human being will ever have to learn in their lives. Schools take it on from a motor perspective and if kids have a learning difficulty such as dyspraxia or dyslexia the neurological pathway is already compromised.
Shelley's course teaches us how to 'wake up' all three pathways and integrate them properly. My son was getting really fed up doing all that he was told and still getting no where at school. He loves the programme Shelley has set up for him and comes looking for me now to do the exercises with him. I highly recommend this course to anyone. Shelley has managed to assess my son in such a way as to almost pin point where his problems lie and in which pathway -neurological, auditory or motor. In his case it is Asymmetrical tonic neck reflex (ATNR). He had low self esteem and now is more confident. School is finding he's picking up work easier I.e. He's ABSORBING the knowledge now.
Thank you to Shelley and Hemispheres and a big thank you to the mum who introduced her to me!!!
